Effexor XR did exactly what I needed it to do when I started taking it 3 yrs ago.
Effexor was a bandaid for a short period of time. That was when I realized I could not feel emotions anymore. head over to a site that has them, like drugs. The worst thing is that my emotions go absolutely haywire. I too read in the official info that effexor can worsen hypo/mania & psychosis, but haven't seen that so much in the comments. I am debating on going to the drug store today and getting a refill. All patients taking antidepressants should be watched closely for signs that their condition is getting worse or that they are becoming suicidal, especially when they first start therapy, or when their dose is increased or decreased. I came on the web looking to see if weight gain is common, so it appears that it is (and alot of weight gain, which I was also not informed about, only that some weight loss is common in the first few weeks of beginning treatment). Sometime tell me if this is normal please, but even after my first pill I'm noticing nausea, extreme restlessness, (It's 4am here in Canadian, and I have school in 4 hours)jaw grinding, yawning, and irritability. For me yes the tablets lifted the major depression but the capsules XR formulation were a nightmare. If you take this at night, before bed, alot of symptoms will go away.

After confirming that this was not a heart attack (I could have sworn I was dying,) my doc and I settled on Effexor complimented with Lorazepam.
I have been on effexor and I have gained over 50 pounds. I found that BOTH antidepressants blocked my high. if anyone has any suggestions or words of encouragement, it would be greatly appreciated. Someone please let me know if I am making the right decision. Since Prozac is long-acting, it is the one antidepressant that can be taken every other day as part of tapering the drug. but then i was fine, until i noticed i was highly stressed and on edge and when i drank i would start fights and become angry and argumentative, a personality trait i was not familiar with in myself. Effexor gave me back my life, so I live with it's idiosyncracies. 5 in a few days and then down to 0 mg the following week. I have tried Zoloft, major sexual side effects, tiredness and weight gain. Although I have "down" days now and again, I don't feel that I am severly depressed anymore, but the resaon I've recently started taking it again is because I just started a new job and have adult ADD. I stopped salivating ( I didn't realize this had happened until I got off Effexor. I gained a ton of weight and nothing I did would take it off. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects will increase. I do wish I didn't have to take Depakote with the effexor but at this point in my life I think I deserve to feel like the whole world isn't out to get me. REALLY KILLED MY SEX DRIVE!!! BUT I too have found a wonderful treatment for that; it is an herbal remedy by the name of yohimbe it has tripled my sexual urges yet orgasim is still harder but at least I get there! I've been prescribed over the daily maximum, and cold turkeyed by a psychiatrist. Get lots of info before taking effexor because it causes many changes good and bad. I have no problems with my sex drive or orgasms. BUT THE WHOLE TIME I FELT DIZZY AND IT FELT LIKE I HAD ELECTRICAL SHOCKS GOING THROUGH MY HANDS,ARMS AND HEAD.
Effexor may work for some people but I had a terrible expirence with the stuff. I told her I was tired and worn down and that I didn't know why. I'm also on 300 a day Wellbutrin XL AND something like 600 a day Depakote.
I have been on the unheavenly host of antidepressants for the past 12+ years, but Effexor is ONE ILL-ADSVISED alternative to the rest. wrong!!! I went from the tablets which were treating my depression very well to within 3 days of taking the same dose XR capsule, I went straight into severe discontinuation syndrome. 5mg like 5 days ago, and I guess I'm just starting to feel the side effects, but dont get me wrong the first four days were great! My terrible panic attacks went away, i wasnt anxious, but the fifth morning I awoke with the worst panic attack, I immediately took another pill for that day thinking it would go away, but it lasted all afternoon, then I went on this site and realized the 3rd and 4th day I was having pains in the back of my eyes i just though it was from just normal stress. The anti depressants slow down your intestinal system very much and over the years (22 for me) have finally completely stopped me. I have taken this for several years for menopausal symptoms, even bragging to others at how effective it has been. Interestingly, when the manufacturer stopped making the effexor tablets and only had the drug available in the XR capsule, I filled my script at the chemist not even thinking that the change of the drug to capsule form would not make any difference. Effexor withdrawal Tremulousness Nervous - Very jumpy, shaky, and uneasy while feeling fearful and timid. My doctor had me on Lexapro for the last year or two and it just wasn't cutting it anymore. Thank you all for being so brave and willing to post your experiences with Effexor. In clinical studies, the most common side effects with EFFEXOR XR (reported in at least 10% of patients and at least twice as often as with placebo) were constipation, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, nervousness, sexual side effects, sleepiness, sweating, and weakness. Experienced terrible headaches and feelings of primal aggression after stopping medication. The mean change from baseline in heart rate for Effexor XR-treated patients in the GAD studies was significantly higher than that for placebo (a mean increase of 3 beats per minute for Effexor XR and no change for placebo). Had somewhat of a lack of effect (who cares) attitude then, so not really happy either. Maybe I miststate this not taper, stop taking 112. I was controlled by Effexor for over 5 years. In that time I noticed no side effects and had no problems going off the drug. 2% of placebo-treated patients experienced mania or hypomania. But after 3 weeks, it just stopped working. After a few minutes my body violently threw it up.

Next time I get a perscription from a Dr. 5 Effexor and 20 MG Prozac, then 20 mg Prozac for 30 days,then 10 mg each day for a week, 10 mg every other day for a week, then 10 mg every three days for a week, then once a week for two weeks and I had no problem getting off Effexor or Prozac. After about two weeks, the side effects settled down and I thought I was doing alright. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. I look forward to the day when I will be drug-free, but that could be years. ), so the weight gain isn't any fun, but I also now have the energy to work out and the motivation to eat more healthily. Effexor is sometimes used to treat anxiety and depression. I started with 75mg for 2 weeks and then went to 150 mg after that. today i finally made myself go to doc to get off of this stuff! I hope to get my life back. and felt very tired and did not feel any difference. I've tried other anti-depressants (zoloft, serzone) and Effexor XR was the only med that didn't make me feel like an emotionless zombie. Every week I would reduce the number of granules by 5 or 7. Everyone seems to have suffered some of the negative side-effects and most people that tried to quit suffered horrible withdrawals especially if tried cold turkey. I decided to stop taking it when I started feeling better and being the genious that I am, didnt figure out that the horrible horrible nightmares were due to quitting the Effexor XR cold turkey. I know it takes approx 5 weeks to get the full effect. I did not realize the other uses for effexor i. Therefore, venlafaxine should not be used in combination with MAO inhibitors or within two weeks of terminating treatment with MAO inhibitor's.
I have been on Effexor for 3 years after trying just about every other possible antidepressant. I now have to remind myself to eat to keep up my energy. Whether or not higher doses of Effexor XR are needed for more severely depressed patients is unknown; however, the experience with Effexor XR doses higher than 225 mg/day is very limited. if you have panic attacks DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE. If I can kick the damn yawing I will for sure stay on effexor.

I am so glad I found this site. I lived through Katrina, had a heart problem and almost died a few years ago, and have had financial problems as a result of Katrina. could miss a dose or two and no problem. Withdrawal (they prefer to call it discontinuation but it IS withdrawal) is very difficult as most people who have tried have found out. If I only knew for sure how long these "electric brain shocks" were going to last maybe I could get through this. I know that sounds callous, but compared to the deep clinical depression I suffered through for years along with SAD, this is quite acceptable. Once again, no side effects other than positive changes. the hot flashes have gone from about 20 or 30 a day to maybe ONE. I've talked to many people who have had positive experiences. I have tried tappering but I become extremely moody, quick tempered and feel physically ill. Wellbutrin worked wonders for me the first time I was on it, but then I foolishly took myself off of it and it didn't work when I went back on the second time. I was on anti-psychotic meds for almost 14 years from age 19 to 32 but was taken off 4 years ago following recovery, and have not had return of psychotic symptoms. I was on no other meds and took effexor xr for 3 yrs. After 3 days on 225mg my anxiety was unbareable! I went back and he took me off of it completley and replaced it with Wellbutruin. Things that used to make me uncomfortable seem less intimidating now. 5 to 225 mg/day, up to 8 weeks or up to 6 months, a final on-drug mean increase in SDBP of 0. I've been taking Effexor for a few years now for depression after being switched from Prozac suddenly (even though I think I responded better to Prozac). The w/drawal effects are off the chart compared to side effects. I was never officially diagnosed, but I meet the requirements for GAD. I have been on Effexor for about 4 months now and I have to say it really made a difference for me. I've moved around quite a bit in the last several years and thus haven't had a one doctor monitoring my usage for any length of time. I don't remember the first part or parts of it. It is important to give the medication a trial of several weeks and to be in close communication with your doctor about signs of effectiveness, side effects, and personal factors affecting one's response to the medication. I started taking Effexor 150/day after a major crash-and-burn brought on by trying to do 60 hours a week consulting job while holding my 40 hours a week day job.
Currently I am taking 225 mg of the drug. The causes can be mild or seriously life-threatening because they include the heart, lungs and surrounding muscles. best wishes to all, and follow your gut. Effexor XR treatment for up to 12 weeks in premarketing placebo-controlled panic disorder trials was associated with a mean final on-therapy increase in pulse rate of approximately 1 beat per minute, compared with a decrease of less than 1 beat per minute for placebo. Many changes have occurred, including structural ones, and so a gentle withdrawal taper aims to allow a less stressful transition and more time for adaptation. It actually took a long time to get rid of the panic attacks. I am more confident, more outgoing and just generally a happier person!
Effexor does work as a "chill pill" for me. You may need to make notes & decipher some of the medical terminology. However, patients taking cimetidine who have high blood pressure or liver disease or are elderly should use caution in taking Effexor because the interaction can be more pronounced when these disorders are present. I spoke to someone else on effexor and they raved about how good it was but they were on it for hot flushes. Unfortunately, I am being told by my physician that I am going to be gradually increased to 150mg/day since this is the typical treatment regime.

Weight loss and age gain from Effexor. I woke up yesterday morning with a pretty good idea for a gorey/slasher/cannobolism film. I am not familiar with these types of drugs but am very concerned about changes in his behavior and actions over the last several months. any and everything i eat is going through me.
